NBC Receive Order To Implement Regulations For Online Media From Information And Culture Minister

National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has received an order from the Honourable Minister Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed to begin the implementation and regulations of online media.

Segun Adeyemi who was the media aide to the Lai Mohammed in his statement released today January 9,2020 ,The minister said the implementation has received the President approvals and will reposition the broadcasting industry, create employment ,promote local content, lastly it will also contribute to the growth of creative industry.

Broadcasters were also asked to utilize the content and services of Nigerian independent producers in line with regulatory requirements for 70 percent local content.

The statement reads as follows
“Following my satisfaction with the report which was very professional and detailed, I wish to direct the commission to take the necessary measures to effect the implementation of the various provisions therein.

“This directive covers the provision for the regulation of the web and online TV/radio,
regulation of international broadcasters beaming signals into Nigeria
hate speech
human resource and staff welfare
funding for the reforms implementation
Independence of the regulator
and ease of issuing licenses as well as competition and monopoly issues.

While stating the advantages, he said

Empower local producers with proper
financing and investment
Enhancement of foreign collaborations
Helps in developing the local industry
Increases the local productions and
Create more employment .
