Court Struck Out Abacha’s Family Bid To Access Bank Accounts In Some Countries

The late Gen. Sani Abacha and also the former head of state in Nigeria accounts were frozen by the former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999. This was due to the countries mutual judicial assistance agreements entered with the concerned countries by the Nigerian government during the 1999 administration

The Supreme Court yesterday February 7, 2020 struck out a lawsuit filed by the family of late former Head of State, Sani Abacha to access some bank accounts in the Luxemberg, Jersey United Kingdom, Switzerland, Liechenstein .

The then Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Kanu Agabi (SAN) wrote a letter to the concerned countries to block Sani Abacha’s family from accessing the account in 1999
